Baby Number Two

mom dad and baby at the beach

We already shared our big announcement last week with friends and family, just in time for Halloween  — so in case you missed it on social media, SURPRISE! We’re expecting our second baby, due in May 2019!!! We want to have three kids total, maaaaaybe four depending on what genders we get. John jokingly told me he’s afraid of being outnumbered if we have another girl, but that secretly he really enjoys being a girl dad and wouldn’t mind another daughter. 😉

We’ve had this idea for a long time that we wanted at least two of our kids to be close in age so they could grow up together as best friends and have someone to play with. When our next one is born, they will be 22 months apart! We can’t wait to meet him/her…and to find out if our baby is a him or a her!

I would have done something a bit more elaborate for our pregnancy announcement, but Continue reading

How to Create a Nursing Friendly Spring Capsule Wardrobe

“Finding clothes that fit my pregnant/nursing/postpartum body is ______.” What is your blank? My blank would’ve been all over the place a year ago…from impossible, to attainable, to I-don’t-want-to-talk-about-it, to manageable-but-meh. After I had Izzy, I felt like nothing I tried on was really working for my postpartum body shape. I was shrinking in some places, yet staying the same in other places, it was very hard to find clothes that fit. I was on the hunt for clothes that:

  • were classic and flattering
  • I could easily nurse in
  • I could grow a bump into for baby number two
  • I would still want to keep around heading into my 30’s which is only a year away.

After really searching high and low outside of my normal go-to stores, I finally have found some timeless, fun pieces at a great price that work well for a classic capsule postpartum wardrobe heading into spring and summer! They’re all nursing friendly, great to work a bump into later on, and styles that I can add a pop of color to with an accessory, patterned or textured bag or shoe, a bold lip color, or fun hairstyle.

A capsule collection should be versatile, transitional, and functional for every season. Pick a few core pieces you truly love for your body, add in your favorite accessories to create texture and vibrancy, and embrace a more simplistic timeless wardrobe!

40 Week Bump Update

Today is my 280th day and 40th week being pregnant – and at this point, I’m tired of waiting for her to show up! Like, girl what’s taking so long?! To which John said, “she’s just likes to sleep in, like me” (John could sleep in for days if he wanted to) which could be true, however, I’m really crossing my fingers for her to show up on 4th of July. Because, nothing beats birthday fireworks every year. 🙂 I’ve tried everything to get her to come on time – spicy foods (sriracha on everything), pillow talk, greasy pizza, long walks, 2 membrane sweeps now (um, OUCH), dancing around the house…but she’s apparently perfectly content being in my belly for longer than 40 weeks! So since today is her due date and she hasn’t come yet John and I decided to take advantage of the last bit of alone time and went to the beach, got ice cream, and now we’re grilling up some fried egg avocado burgers for dinner for some pre-4th festivities.

38 Week Bump Update and Maternity Photo Session Recap

Size:
Baby is the size of a baby bok choi, and weighs about 6.5 lbs ❤ She should be almost done gaining her baby weight – we are so ready for her to get here already!

Weight gained: I’m at 162lbs! At first I was freaked out by how fast the numbers climbed on the scale, but now I’m like eh, whatever. It’s just a number, and it’s because of a baby. I’m due in 10 days, so total weight gained during this pregnancy has been about 35 lbs. And luckily, it’s been mostly belly for me 🙂

Symptoms: I get worn out easily, have minor swollen feet (at night mostly), and (probably) a bruised up ribcage from how hard she moves around in there! Continue reading

Our Baby’s Eclectic Bohemian Mini Nursery

We live in a one bedroom apartment, so our baby girl’s “nursery” is set up along one wall of our bedroom. I thought it would be too small at first, but it turns out it is just the right size for all her things! Plus, we wanted to keep her close to us for the first year, not in her own room. Moving into a 2 bedroom would not have been cost efficient (especially living in San Diego) – so for the time being, this set up works for us. If you have a small space for your nursery, or if you can’t afford to expand into a larger place for now, or if you’re working with a budget – this post is for you 🙂 I’ll be talking about how we set up her space, where we got everything, and how to create a personalized mini nursery on a budget!
