Wild Sprout Studio offers an introductory studio art class for kids in 1st through 5th grades, located in Murrieta, CA. At Wild Sprout Studio, your child will receive a well rounded introduction to visual arts not only through creating art, but also in discovering and interpreting art through age appropriate artistic literature and learning about famous artists. This class will refine their artistic skills and abilities as budding artists in a fun and engaging way, and will forge a path for them to create and appreciate art for years to come!
My goal for Wild Sprout Studio is to plant a seed while kids are young that will grow in them a love and passion for expression and creativity through various forms of artistic mediums such as pastels and charcoals, up-cycled sculptures, water color and acrylic paints, and more. Art is a wonderful way to introduce self and communal awareness, teach patience, delayed gratification, self-expression, problem solving skills, celebrates playful imagination by weaving dreams and storytelling together, and compliments core subjects such as math, ELA, and science! Students will use the skills and knowledge taught in class to create multiple still life, process art, and nature-based artworks through individual and group projects over the course of the school year.
At the end of the school year, Wild Sprout Studio will hold a special ‘art exhibition’ where all students will showcase their favorite works complete with artist name, medium used, and artwork title. This is an evening event for families to attend and will be run like a real art show: with light food and drinks, art exhibition, and a rewards ceremony where each child will receive a special and personalized award. This gives students an opportunity to be proud of their artwork, showcase their favorite pieces for their family, and to be recognized and celebrated for their artistic abilities and growth as a young artist.
MY CREDENTIALS
I received my Masters in Art (Art Education and Museum Art Studies) from San Diego State University in 2016, and prior to that, my Bachelor’s in Art (emphasis in Photography and Painting) in 2012. I have over 10 years experience as a wedding and family photographer, as well as over 15 years graphic design and illustration experience. After starting our family in 2017, it was important to instill a love for art into our children, and give them open ended opportunities to create and paint and make and explore with many different art mediums! I am currently authoring/illustrating a children’s book that will be published with Paper Peony Press in summer 2024, and spend my free time creating art for my print shop June & Joy (find it on Etsy and Instagram).

-Complete engaging practice art exercises each class that align with the art theme of the month.
-Keep and work in an art sketchbook to take home weekly.
-Create wonderfully immersive individual and group art projects.

-Participate in an end of the year student art exhibition to showcase their favorite works.
Sample Class Structure:
-Class will start out by students listening to a illustratively rich read-aloud at the beginning of class, followed by a warmup in their sketchbooks.
-We will introduce the theme of the week, and do a hands-on artistic exercise.
-We will start our project of the day and work on it as a group while students learn about art process, color science, or a famous artist.
-We will end the class with an activity that will encourage movement and creative play.
-Students will be sent home with their sketchbooks and a ‘sketchbook invitation’ prompt to work on at home. These will be imaginative, child-led mini assignments to encourage and spark creativity throughout the week until the next class session and are not graded.
FAQ:
Is the class drop-off or do parents stick around?
Class is drop-off based. There is a lot to do in the area for restaurants, parks, and shopping if parents want to stay local during class time.
What supplies does my child need for the class?
All students will receive their own paint apron to be worn over their clothes for each class. All other art materials will be provided in class to use. If you prefer to purchase your own materials for the class for your child to keep, you may do so but this is not required! A class materials list for this can be provided upon request.
What should my child wear?
Please send children in clothes/shoes to create and make messes in! We will be working with various mediums that may not be able to be washed off clothing well. Older jeans, a t-shirt, or any other attire that can be their “art clothes” is fine.
Is the class inside or outside?
The class is going to be held outdoors, unless rainy or cold weather moves us inside. On occasion and depending on weather, class will meet at a local outdoor location for an art-themed field trip or guest artist experience! More info on these outings will be listed in the syllabus.
Where is the class held?
Class takes place at a private residence in a gated community located in old town Murrieta, CA. Parking and address information will be provided upon registration.
How many students will be in the class?
Class size will be no more than 14 students.
What if my child has to miss a class?
If a student has to miss a class, there will be no make up class time or refund. However, the student has the option to pick up a to-go art kit the day after class to complete that week’s art project at home.
