Celebrating Izzy At 1.5 Years Old

I journaled nearly everything all throughout my pregnancy, and then from birth to age 1. I wanted to memorize every single experience and detail about my first baby’s little life. But once toddlerhood came around after her first birthday, it became harder to find time to write all the things down that she learned, said, and did throughout the day. She has always been a super active kiddo, and I’ve hardly had a chance to breathe let alone document all the sweet, smart, and funny things she’s done these last few months.

This post is celebrating all the things she has accomplished so far, what she can do and say, and her likes/dislikes at 1.5 years old 🙂 This is such a fun (and exhausting and crazy) age and I am so excited to see how much she will love being a big sister once baby #2 comes.

FUN FACTS ABOUT IZZY

  • She loves to try things on her own (going up or down stairs, doing her buckle on her high chair, washing her hair with shampoo)
  • She is a huge chatterbox. She talks to herself, to the “play phone” she has, and to anyone she sees during the day.
  • She is super social, even with strangers! Our ped asked if we ever had her in daycare because of her social personality – but nope, we have never done daycare for her, she just takes after her mommy! Ha!
  • Izzy recognizes her name when it’s spelled on paper – she will point to it and say “izzy!”
  • She is obsessed with babies and small kids. She has been known to chase kids with arms open wide hoping to hug them.
  • She tried her first bite of dole whip at Disneyland this year, and loved it (obviously).
  • She kisses any and every ouchie she can find with a “mmmmmah!”
  • She finallllllyyyyyy is taking a solid 2-2.5 hour nap during the day. We had a slow transition from 2 to 1 nap at 17-18 months, but now she naps like a champ.

WHAT SHE IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON/LEARNING

  • NUMBERS: How to count to 5 – she can count to three already! Just this morning she was looking at her toes and said: “1…2…3…4…5…6……6………….9……..9!”
  • COLORS: She knows/recognizes the colors red, blue, yellow, green, brown and purple and points to them correctly most of the time. Every time we color I ask her what that color is, and will point to other things around the house that are the same color.
  • BODY PARTS: She knows all the basics, and knows where they are on herself.
  • MANNERS: She learned please, thank you, and you’re welcome very early on. We ask her “what do you say? you say ___.” every time she is handed something or wants something.
  • WAITING: We are teaching her how to wait and be patient for things she wants. Usually she is okay about it, other days she whines and throws a mini tantrum.
  • BOUNDARIES: This is the hardest one right now. She likes to test limits, push boundaries and not listen. What almost-two year old doesn’t?! We do a lot of redirection and explaining why something is not okay numerous times a day.
  • USING HER WORDS TO FORM SENTENCES: We will ask her what’s wrong, and ask questions/talk to her a lot throughout the day. We also tell her to use her words if she’s ever upset, cranky, or whiny. She has gotten a lot better about stopping to think, choosing her words, and telling us (with her best knowledge) what she needs in the last 2-3 months.

LOVES:
Waving at everyone, bath time, coloring with crayons, wearing her socks on her hands, pushing her baby doll stroller around, dancing with daddy, climbing on everything, Tinkerbell/Minnie Mouse, going on walks in the stroller, anything having to do with animals, reading books, being spun around/flipped upside down, snuggling, and going down slides/on the swings at the playground.

DOESN’T LIKE:
When she hears a baby crying (she will say baby sad! baby crying!), sitting still for diaper changes, not being able to do something on her own in the right way (like putting her shoes on, but gets mad when they’re on the wrong feet), not getting something right away, and the baby monitor camera.
