The Best Non Maternity Clothing To Wear During Pregnancy

Maternity clothing that checks off all the boxes: actually stylish, flattering, fits well, AND can be worn throughout your entire pregnancy? That’s hard to come by! Finding stylish and flattering clothing to wear during the majority of your pregnancy is possible – you just have to think outside the box and hunt for those perfect versatile pieces!

I’ve rounded up some of the best non-maternity clothing to wear during pregnancy that are flattering, at great price points, and are versatile to wear before/during/and after pregnancy! I own many of these items (or similar ones) myself. A lot of you have been asking to see some maternity fashion over here, so I’m hoping to show more how I dress the bump the further along we get 🙂

What’s important to know before shopping non-maternity clothing

While you’re pregnant – depending on your body  – your size will most likely change (sometimes drastically). And if it does, you will have to modify your clothing size to accommodate your growing bump. Normally, I am a pant size 2/size small in tops, but with both pregnancies I’ve gone up about 3-4 sizes in my bust, hips, and waist.

So mama-to-be, don’t get discouraged when “nothing fits” from your pre-pregnancy closet anymore. Remember that your body is doing an amazing and intense thing by growing a tiny human! And after your baby is out, it will take some time for your body to adjust and shrink down. Just breathe, learn to acclimate, and embrace your new mom bod! <3 PS: Totally preaching this to myself, too!

Check out these amazing finds below to create a maternity-friendly wardrobe with non-maternity pieces:

^ lace hemmed sweater from Target: bump friendly

tops

A New Day long sleeve from Target – $10
This long sleeve has worked super well for me so far. I have it in three colors! It’s stretchy, is long enough to go over my bump, and is a great layering piece for colder months. I will throw it on under sweaters, or wear it alone with a cardigan over leggings or shorts.

Joy Lab layering sweater from Target – $25
Stylish athlesuire is pretty much the staple of my pregancy this time around! Anything that allows me room to breathe, layer, or throw on over leggings that doesn’t look like I just woke up or came from the gym…sign me up! With the high side slits on this one, you can wear it over a nursing tank paired with high waisted leggings postpartum. Or, make it fancy and throw it over a printed midi skirt.

A New Day wrap sweater from Target – $25
Can you tell I love the brand a new day at Target?! They’ve got such great pieces for under $30! This wrap sweater would look so pretty with boyfriend jeans and booties. Pair it with a lace nursing bra underneath for some peek-a-boo details.

Wild Fable thermal front tie top from Target – $16
Urban Outfitters and Free People both have this same top for more than double Target’s price! I love finding a good dupe – I actually owned the Free People version of this top last year, but once I found Target’s version a couple weeks ago I realized Target’s is much cozier and better quality.  The buttons also make it easy to wear while nursing! The top can be untied to fully cover your bump in later pregnancy. Or, pair it with a long tank underneath if you want to keep it tied during the third trimester.

Vests/jackets/kimonos

Jackets, vests, and cardi’s will give structure to your shoulders and waist while allowing you to show off your baby bump curves! Throw it on over a tank or blouse to elevate any outfit. I also used the front part of my cardigans as a nursing shield while out in public.

Tahari vest from TJ Maxx – $30
Tahari is a higher price point brand normally found at Nordstrom and Macy’s. But finding pieces like this on super sale at TJ Maxx makes it even sweeter! This vest is a great option to throw over a long sleeve, and to wear when you’re nursing.

A New Day military vest from Target – $30
My favorite thing about vests is finding ones that have a drawstring around the waist. While you’re preggo, find pieces that taper at your waistline (peplum, drawstring, or a low waist hem line) to help create a slimming look around your midsection.

Lucky Brand striped tie kimono – $54 friends and family
The wrap on this kimono make it nursing friendly! I love to wear belts and tops that wrap, because I can sit them above the bump while pregnant and show off those baby curves.

Knox Rose embroidered military jacket from Target – $35 (pictured below)
I LOOOVE this jacket. it’s lightweight, and the embroidery details are my favorite! The waist also cinches, which I love doing to accentuate my waist while pregnant. It’s a perfect layering piece!

dresses/overalls

If there’s one item that has been a struggle for me to still wear while pregnant, it’s dresses. I prefer ones above the knee normally, but those don’t last long while growing a bump – they tend to ride up and become too short in the front to wear the bigger your bump gets. When you’re pregnant, you get a chance to try new and different styles/ways of wearing things you wouldn’t otherwise think to wear. For me, that was more maxi’s! Here are my favorite maxi’s, midi’s, and overalls that are perfect for pregnancy and after:

Psst: Lucky Brand is having their friends & family sale right now
plus an extra $25 off $100 purchases!

Lucky Brand side tie dress – $48 friends & family sale
I love everything about this dress. It’s soft, the side tie adds a pretty detail, and it can be dressed up (throw on a boyfriend blazer and heels for a night out) or down (slide on some mules or converse with a denim jacket for daytime).

Lucky Brand cloud jersey dress – $48 friends and family sale
This dress is softer than soft!!! Every pregnant mama’s dream is to wear clothing that is just as stylish as it is comfortable. This one is like wearing a cloud! And is long enough to grow a bump into without getting too short in the front. Pair it with OTK or knee high boots and a bold lip, or some white converse and a brown leather tote.

Lucky Brand button front maxi – $60 friends and family sale
If you can’t tell by now, I also really love Lucky Brand clothing! This dress has buttons in the front so nursing will be no problem. I love how light and airy it is, and the color is gorgeous. Definitely added this one to my shopping cart once I found it! Has a sewn-in slip, too. If you also want to shop this piece be sure to look into this monetha.io rewards list for apparel.

Vici Dolls Tommy Drawstring Overalls – $31
Anything with a drawstring or elastic waist band will be your bff during pregnancy! And vici dolls pieces are super versatile + on trend. Overalls are kind of hard to find with an elastic waist, so I also linked some maternity overalls below. Look for ones with buttons on the waist on either side, or that have an elastic or drawstring waist.

shorts

Any elastic waistband shorts will work out wonderfully during pregnancy! The ones I linked below are the best price point and get 5 stars for comfort, plus come in 3 colors for all seasons:

Universal Thread Pull-On Shorts from Target – $17.99
I have a pair of these from when I was preggo with Izzy, and they’re so comfortable it’s insane. The wasitband is elastic, perfect for stretching with your bump. I would style these with a fun printed top and wedges, or neutral sandals with a white flowy blouse.
